Founded in 1977 by Margie Sutcliffe, Brackenfield has been a leading prep school in Harrogate for over forty years. The enduring popularity of the school means we are now welcoming former pupils back to the school as parents. Rated 'EXCELLENT' in all areas by ISI, the school's family ethos and strong core values are bringing more families than ever to our door, keen for their children to experience the best possible start to their education, in a nurturing atmosphere that enables every child to achieve.
This is a happy school where children have access to a wide variety of activities, the staff are caring and enthusiastic and the parents are made to feel part of the school.

Outdoor education takes place both within and beyond our school site. We are lucky to be endowed with many leafy trees and specific outdoor learning areas on site.
We are fortunate to have our own sports field adjacent to Brackenfield, which is surrounded by fields and the wooded areas of Birk Crag.
Physical education is more than just running around a track or kicking a ball. It teaches children key life skills alongside improving their health and wellbeing.
The benefits of physical education are far-reaching, including both increased student physical health and better academic performance
Children can swim all year round at Brackenfield School, with the use of an excellent indoor pool close to the school grounds.
Our Games department ensure that the curriculum consists of age-appropriate activities that support growing minds and bodies. They adapt lessons to make them appropriate for their groups and ensure that they do not overwhelm children with skills or requirements that may be too advanced. At the same time, they know when children are ready to be stretched.
