Extra Curricular Activities

We have an extensive Extra Curricular Activity programme at Brackenfield, tailored to children's interests.

We want our pupils to grow and develop with a variety of interests and experiences that will bring richness to their lives, both here at school and as they go out into the wider world. In the best tradition of prep schools everywhere, children are encouraged to choose from a wide range of extra curricular activity clubs that allow them to develop new skills, and to grow in confidence and perseverance, as well as making friends and having lots of fun!

The school day finishes at 3.30pm. Children can then join an extra curricular activity until 4.30pm. If a particular activity isn't of interest, wrap around care at After School Club is available until 5.55pm.

...inspectors found the extra-curricular programme to be carefully nuanced so as to provide pupils with new experiences and foster their individual talents - ISI Inspection 2023.

Music & Choir

Music is led by our Musical Director, Helen Leaf, who not only teaches weekly lessons from Nursery upwards but also writes and composes many of our productions and musical numbers.

Junior choir is available each week for those children who would like to participate. Our Junior Choir have been honoured to perform in community events like the Mayor's Christmas Carol Concert at Harrogate Royal Hall, Remembrance Day events at Ripon Cathedral and The Big School Sing for Harrogate's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations. We also perform for local residents at Hampden House & Manor House care homes.

Infants perform for families in annual Harvest Festival, Christmas Productions and Summer Productions.

Juniors take part in Remembrance Day Concerts, Christmas Carol Concerts and Summer Productions.

Peripatetic

Dedicated peripatetic teachers are available to teach children in a number of different music and theatrical experiences including piano, guitar, drums and woodwind with the addition of singing and speech & drama.

A love of music is encouraged throughout the school, with opportunities for beginners through to more advanced musicians. Children leaving Brackenfield for senior schools have received music scholarships and awards of which we are immensely proud.

Holiday Clubs

Outside term time, our Head of Games, Mr Olesqui runs a popular holiday club for 1 week at Christmas, 1 week at Easter and 3 weeks in Summer.

Alongside his dedicated team, Mr Olesqui creates a dynamic and fun environment for your children over the holiday periods. The vision of the programme is to allow your child to flourish in a familiar and happy setting, allowing them to learn and experience new things whilst being in a safe environment under the watchful eye of our highly experienced and DBS-checked staff.
