About the Nursery Department - Little Brackens

Between the ages of two and four, pupils are cared for in Little Brackens our Nursery Department. They feel secure and valued in a happy, stimulating environment where the foundations are laid for the rest of their education.

Little Brackens operates for 50 weeks a year, although term-time only places are also available. We accept 15 hours Early Years funding. There is a busy, yet relaxed atmosphere, and the carefully structured programme encourages:

  • The development of social skills

  • The rapid development of communication, language and literacy

  • Physical development

  • An understanding of the world around them

Creative and imaginative play

As your child gets older, we do advise starting your child with a minimum of 3 sessions to help them settle more quickly into nursery life.

Moving on to the Nursery Class (age 3 by end of August to start in September), we do advise attending more morning sessions so that your child benefits from all areas of the morning timetable when we have a wider use of the school facilities. There is an excellent staff to pupil ratio, with the use of specialist staff and facilities for music, ICT and French.

The classrooms are bright, cheerful and always full of fun! The children quickly relax, make friends and thoroughly enjoy their days. There is plenty of time for everyone to participate in the wide range of activities we offer—both indoors and outdoors. Children who join Little Brackens are soon happy and confident in their new surroundings and rapidly become integrated into Brackenfield School.
