Brackenfield School is thrilled to be announced as a finalist in the YourHarrogate, Local Hero Awards 2026.

Proudly nominated for an "Active School" award in recognition of its strong community connections, this nomination was particularly special as Community is one of the school's four Mission Areas, we spoke to Year 6 pupils..

The school’s Community Captains Eva and Zara explained, “We go out in the community and help; we hold litter picks, we have a strong bond with care homes close to our school and visit them regularly and we raise money for various charities throughout the year. In the Autumn term, we held a tea party here at school for all the care home residents. We just love being out and about in the local community”.

Mrs Emilie Moon, Brackenfield’s Head of Infants and Community Lead supported the girls’ sentiments by describing how Brackenfield School’s pupils “simply go about their business all year round”, helping out and being active in the community. "It is so very valuable for our pupils to understand the importance of both our school and local community but also that of the wider community. It helps children to develop their sense of belonging as well as developing a whole host of life skills"

As Adam Daniel, Managing Director of Your Harrogate, says: “It’s about celebrating people who go above and beyond every day for no reward or recognition.”

We couldn’t be prouder of our pupils for doing exactly that.
