Brackenfield School's recent Art Week & exhibition and Spelling Bee competition enable pupils to embrace the Growth Mindset theory
This theory, espoused by psychologist Carol Dweck is best summarised in her words: “This growth mindset is based on the belief that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts.”
Our recent Art Week & exhibition and Spelling Bee competition brought this ethos to life. Pupils embodied Dweck’s words on the subject: “Why waste time proving over and over how great you are, when you could be getting better?”
From exploring artistic expression to developing confidence in literacy, pupils approached both activities with enthusiasm, resilience and a willingness to challenge themselves.
A special thank you to Mrs Haddleton (Year 1) and Ms van Eede (Year 3), whose thoughtful organisation of Art Week and the Spelling Bee competition created opportunities for pupils to learn, grow, and develop their talents. Their carefully curated activities inspired pupils to engage as well as taking pride in their progress.
Reflecting on these events, Mr Masterson, Headmaster of Brackenfield School commented: “The breadth of opportunity we deliver at Brackenfield enables children to work independently, whether researching an artist or improving their spelling. Celebrating pupil achievement not only rewards effort but fuels the all-important Growth Mindset.”
Dweck perfectly sums up the Brackenfield pupil approach; “The passion for stretching yourself and sticking to it, even (or especially) when it’s not going well, is the hallmark of the growth mindset. This is the mindset that allows people to thrive!”
We are incredibly proud of our pupils for embracing every opportunity school life offers and being curious, determined and genuinely committed to learning.
👏 Well done, Brackenfield pupils!
