Brackenfield School's Performing Arts provision

The sheer breadth of opportunity to be involved in the Performing Arts is what we feel sets our exceptional provision apart.

Led by a highly talented team: Ms Helen Leaf, Director of Music, and Mrs Emilie Moon, Head of Infants and Year 2 teacher, together, they form “MoonLeaf Productions”.  A unique creative partnership that writes, produces and directs an ambitious programme of performances. They also lead our choirs, ensuring that music and performance are central to the Brackenfield experience.

In terms of productions, in the Autumn term, the Infant Nativity is a highlight, followed by a Spring Concert for the Juniors and a Mini Concert for the Infants. The Summer Term culminates in the much-anticipated Junior production, for Year 6 a triumphant celebration of their journey through the school.

Throughout the year, the school choirs have entranced with their pop up performances in Harrogate. They have also visited care homes on numerous occasions demonstrating how the joy of singing and music transcends the generations. New this academic year was the creation of a Community Choir open to “friends” of Brackenfield including past pupils, former Brackenfield families, neighbours etc.

Ms Leaf, whose background lies in Musical Theatre, also composes original works to mark significant occasions. Notable examples include tributes for Sir David Attenborough and Dame Julie Andrews, both of whom personally responded to our pupils with a handwritten letter in recognition of their songs. Additionally, a performance of The Pixar Way by our Infant pupils elicited a letter of thanks from Peter Docter, Chief Creative Officer at Pixar and co-writer of Toy Story. MoonLeaf productions truly achieve global fame! This year’s “ Song for You” performed at a special assembly to celebrate Mother’s Day left not a dry eye in the room!

We cannot wait to watch the Infant and Junior Performances taking place soon!
