Brackenfield School Celebrates Successful ISI Inspection Ahead of its 50th Anniversary

Inspectors visited the school in early July 2026. They looked at leadership, management and governance; the quality of education; pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing; pupils’ social and economic education and contribution to society; and safeguarding. The school met the Standards in all five areas.

Inspectors were particularly positive about teaching and learning, reporting:

“Teaching is well planned and tailored to meet pupils’ needs. Pupils enjoy their learning and act on the helpful guidance and feedback for improvement given by teachers. They make good progress and are well prepared to transition to secondary school by the end of Year 6.”

The report also highlights the school’s caring culture. Inspectors found that “leaders promote and prioritise the emotional and physical wellbeing of pupils” and that, as a result, “pupils are confident and behave well.” They noted that “the school’s values are central to its culture and help bind the community together.”

In the Early Years, inspectors saw how “warm and positive relationships with staff help children to settle quickly, feel safe and secure, and develop confidence and independence.” Older pupils benefit from “a broad and stimulating range of co-curricular activities”, from debating and gymnastics to the choir’s annual performance at Ripon Cathedral, and play an active part in the local community through visits to a local care home, charity fundraising and litter picks. Inspectors also confirmed that safeguarding arrangements are effective.

The result builds on Brackenfield’s previous ISI inspection in June 2023, when the school was rated ‘Excellent’. ISI has since introduced a new inspection framework which no longer awards graded judgements. Instead, inspectors report on whether a school meets the Independent School Standards.
