Brackenfield School Celebrates Joe Masterson's Legacy and Welcomes Experienced Interim Head
Brackenfield School in Harrogate is set for a change of leadership as headmaster Joe Masterson steps down after six years in the role and the school welcomes Mr. Phil Soutar as Interim Head.
Mr Masterson has overseen a period of growth and development at the independent preparatory school, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
He will be succeeded by Mr. Phil Soutar, who has been appointed Interim Head from September 2026.
Mr Soutar brings more than 30 years of teaching and leadership experience to the role, including 20 years as a Prep School Head. His career has included several senior positions at independent schools, including a number of years as Head of Prep at Ashville College in Harrogate.
He also served for 15 years on the Executive Council of the Independent Schools Association.
Brackenfield School celebrates Mr Masterson's significant contribution during his six years at the school, strengthening its culture and supporting its focus on academic achievement, personal development and pupil wellbeing.
Mr Masterson and Mr Soutar will work together during the autumn term to ensure a smooth transition for pupils, staff and families.
