Pupil success at Brackenfield School has been celebrated following the results of the Forfar Education Writing Competition, which brought together young writers from across its international network of schools.
Among the winners was Claudia, a Brackenfield School pupil, whose imaginative work stood out in a highly competitive field of entries from students in Years 5/6. The competition challenged pupils to respond to creative prompts, encouraging them to explore unusual scenarios, from mysterious portals to surreal journeys and unexpected dialogue.
Claudia comments: “My story was inspired by a book I read about mythical creatures, particularly the Catsith, a witch who can transform into a cat... I enjoyed the process of developing the idea and seeing where it would lead. I was both happy and surprised to have won the competition. I have always loved writing stories and I still remember sharing my very first story idea with my Reception teacher, who wrote it down while I illustrated the pictures.”
Claudia’s success highlights both individual creativity and high academic standards at Brackenfield School, where a strong emphasis on literacy and critical thinking underpins a consistent track record of the school's pupils achieving places and scholarships at a range of secondary schools.
The competition featured entries from schools across the UK and Europe, showcasing a wide range of storytelling talent. Claudia was recognised alongside other winners from across the Forfar Education family, underlining the collaborative and international spirit of the initiative. Entries were judged by Mrs Helen Wilkinson, Head of Horris Hill School, who praised the high standard of submissions. The competition reflects Forfar Education’s commitment to nurturing creativity, connecting pupils across its schools, and providing opportunities for young people to develop and share their voices on an international stage.
